FRED ZWICKY October 12, 1930 - July 28, 2012 Mr. Frederick Cole Zwicky, age 81, of 102 Pine Tree Lane, passed away at AnMed Health Medical Center on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Born in Greensboro, NC, he was son of the late Frederick Zwicky and the late Lucille Cole Zwicky. Mr. Zwicky retired from BASF after more than 30 years of employment. He worked in Research and Development and Computer Programming. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Currituck. A "jack of all trades" Mr. Zwicky was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He was past president of the Belton Gun Club, and was an amateur photographer. After graduating Oak Ridge Military Academy he attended North Carolina State University where he studied Diesel Engineering. Fred was a member of Covenent Baptist Church. Those left to carry on his legacy include a loving and devoted wife of 16 years, Lavinia Beebe Zwicky of the residence; daughters, Virginia Ansell (R. James) of Tucson, AZ, Catherine Burton (Joseph R.) of Dallas, TX, Marian Bookhart (David) of Augusta, GA; Alison Claudy (Mark) of Knoxville, TN, a step-son, Eddie Beebe (Myrna) of Anderson; step-daughter, Cathey Conwell (Steve) of Anderson; a brother, Henry Zwicky of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Eleanor Zwicky Justice of Greensboro, NC; an aunt, Polly Floyd of Orlando, FL; grandchildren,Dr. Emily Ansell, Robert Ansell, Dr. Michael Burton, Jonathan Burton, Anthony Burton, Aquila Bruker, Matthew Bookhart, Paul Bookhart, Grace Claudy, step-grandchildren, Kendra Hall, Summer Beebe, Taylor Beebe, Stephanie Brown, and Christopher Conwell. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services celebrating the life of Fred Zwicky will be held Friday, August 3, 2012, at 11 AM, at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Silvey officiating. Interment will follow at the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery with military honors. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 6 PM until 8 PM.
