Gary Thomas Whitfield, 73, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Rainey Hospice House. Born March 8, 1946 in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Daniel Levis Whitfield, Sr. and Grace Inez Griffin Whitfield. Gary was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a 1968 graduate of Clemson University where he earned his B.S. Degree and went on to earn a Master's Degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1978. He was an avid sports fan, Clemson Tiger fan and he loved music. He is survived by his siblings, David Earl Whitfield (Alice), Gerald Whitfield and Mary Nalley all of Anderson, SC; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Brenda Whitfield Adams (David); and brother-in-law, Larry Meredith, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel Levis Whitfield, Jr. (Mildred) and Donnie Whitfield; sister, Gloria Meredith; sister-in-law, Pam Whitfield; and brother-in-law, Gene Nalley. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Ron Fousek officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 3:00-4:30 pm in The Family Center of The McDougald Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted.
