Thomas Eugene Black, age 72, of La France, SC, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at AnMed Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1953, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Maxie Ansel Black and Mary Ruth Gray Black. He was married for 44 years to Mary Dean Sutton Black until her death in 2016. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Terry Black and Ricky Black; and sister, Carolyn Ruth Black.

Gene was a self-taught carpenter by trade and loved building things. He also enjoyed raising chickens and working on old cars and trucks.

He is survived by his sons, Randy Eugene Black and Wayne Thomas Black both of La France; daughter, Wanda Kay Burk (Clarence) of Anderson; brother, Danny Black of Anderson; grandchildren, Ashley Burk, Camron Burk, James Black, and Mason Black; and several nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A private committal will be held at Memory Gardens in Clemson.

The family requests no flowers and they will be at the residence.
