GENE BROWN IVA, SC Elliot Eugene "Gene" Brown, of Iva, SC, passed away on November 22, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Iva, SC, he was the son of the late David Parker Brown and the late Grace Wooten Brown. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for over 21 years, where he retired, having served during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion in Iva. Gene enjoyed many hobbies especially his gardening and woodworking. He is survived by his children, Duane Brown and his wife Susan, of Iva, SC, Darwin Brown, of Iva, SC and Dorsey Brown, of Anderson, SC; brothers, Neal Brown, of Iva, SC, and David Brown, of Anderson; a sister, Mary Forrester, of Iva, SC; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse, Elizabeth Pearl Reynolds Brown; brother, Clarence Brown and a sister, Shelby Clark. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery with full military honors. The family will be at the home of the son, Duane Brown, 401 Old Lowndesville Highway, Iva, SC 29655 and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
