Gene Christian, age 88, of 107 Ridgeway Trail, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017, at AnMed Health Medical Center with his beloved family by his side. Born in Hartford, CT on June 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Oscar Christian and the late Yvonne D. Christian. For sixty-four years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Minnie Wilma Christian until her death in 2014. Mr. Christian proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, serving in the 24th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service as well as two purple hearts. As a result of his injuries sustained in combat, he was paralyzed from the waist down. For thirty-five years, he was employed as a technician for Singer Kearfott in New Jersey. He later served as a volunteer for the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. He was a member of Hawthorne Gospel Church in Hawthorne, NJ for approximately forty years. The family moved to Anderson in 2007 to be near his son and daughter-in-law. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Gene P. Christian and his wife, Susan, of Anderson; and four grandchildren, Benjamin Christian and his wife LeAnne of Anderson, Julia Moore and her husband Weston, of Greenville, Evonne Christian and Kendra Christian, both of Anderson. In addition to his parents and his wife Minnie, Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Christian. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Gene Christian will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Committal Shelter of the M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery, with the Reverend Dr. Don Cox officiating.
