Gene A. Cothran, 82, husband of the late Lois Cothran, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born on May 3, 1933, in Fountain Inn, SC, he was the son of the late Broadus Houston Cothran and Julia Nash Cothran. A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict, he was the owner and cofounder of Anderson Business Equipment and the prior owner of Happy Foods Convenience Store on Centerville Road. Nicknamed "Slick," he was an expert storyteller with the gift of gab and was a consummate "Horse Trader."
He is survived by his sons, Steven G. Cothran and his wife Sharon of Anderson, Lt. Col. David E. Cothran and his wife Cheryl of Lexington, SC, and Todd W. Cothran and his wife Tina of Anderson; grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon, Jordan, Blake, Erika, Kennedie, Kacie, and Makenzie; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Benjamin.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Cothran.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 1 p.m. at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery with the Reverend Bill Rigsby officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Interment will follow.
