George Williams Jackson, age 78, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Morningside of Anderson. Born June 24, 1945, in Columbus, GA, he was a son of the late Jesse Mark Jackson and Ella Mary Lee Jackson. He was married to the late Deborah "Debbie" Wallace Jackson. He served his country in the US Navy. George graduated Georgia Tech, where he played football. Later, he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Converse College. He began his working career in textiles where he worked for 28 years. Following his textile career, he taught in Anderson County for School District Five, retiring in 2014. George loved life, people, helping others, and teaching. He never met a stranger. Lively conversation, curious questions, and kindness gave him many friends. He is survived by his children, Claudia Jackson Sandifer (Kevin) and Cece Jackson (David Barnwell); grandchildren, Andrew Tyler Sandifer(fianc Katie Hancock) and Mary Mullen Sandifer; brother, Philip Jackson; and sister, Linda McAlister. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, brothers, Mark Jackson and Steve Jackson predeceased him. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 2 pm at the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Celebrant Michael T. Rippy will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association online www.act.alz.org. A reception will follow the memorial service at The McDougald Family Center.
