George Ronald "Ron" Kortbawi, age 83, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, peacefully at home with his family by his side. Born July 17, 1937 in New Brunswick, NJ, he was the son of the late George and Lillian Kortbawi. He was a graduate of New Brunswick High School, a Navy Corpsman veteran, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Trenton State College, and Master of Arts from Central Michigan University. Ron enjoyed golfing, racing, jazz, country music, western movies, and dancing. Ron was also an accomplished athlete, fun loving referee, and encouraging coach. Ron was a huge Green Bay Packers, "Brooklyn" Los Angeles Dodgers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He was a friend, coach, and mentor to many that came into his life. Survivors include his children: Michele Kortbawi Wilk and husband Jonathan J. Wilk of Naples, FL, Judi Deavenport and husband, Matt Deavenport of Pensacola, FL, Jonni Amidon and husband, Greg Amidon of Schaumburg, IL, and Stephen Kortbawi and wife, Cheryl Kortbawi of Middlesex, NJ; siblings Barbara Lyons of Englewood, CO, Robert Kortbawi of Cuthbert, GA and Ann Gaglione of Somerdale, NJ; six loving grandchildren: Matt (Sarah), Brett (Kim), Bryan (Jessica), Katelyn, Stephen J and Olivia; and seven loving great grandchildren. In addition, to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Cecilia F. Urban in December of 2010. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Council of Aging Adult Day Care, located at 875 Royce Street in Pensacola, FL 32503 in memory of Ron.
