George Steed McClain July 17, 1923 - October 17, 2012 George Steed McClain, age 89, formerly of Hickory Lane, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at National Health Care in Anderson. Born in Franklin County, GA, he was the son of the late Hoyt Isaac McClain and the late Lillie Mae Mullinax McClain. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He retired from Owens Corning - Fiberglas after 30 years of service. He was a charter member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He is survived by his children, George S. McClain and Susan M. Kelly; four grandchildren, Tracy Cruver, Tyler Kelly, Chrystal Templin and Barrett Kelly and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lois Cann McClain; and a son-in-law, Danny K. Kelly. The Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverends Weldon Sellers and Dr. Kirt Mitchell. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors provided by The Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. The family will be at the home of his daughter, 711 Travis Road, Anderson, and will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at the funeral home.
