GEORGE MACAULAY McELVEEN January 29, 1930 - August 7, 2012 George Macaulay McElveen, age 82, of 208 James Street, passed away at his residence at Fellowship Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Born in Lake City, SC, he was the son of the late James Dargan McElveen and the late Agnes Macaulay McElveen. For many years, Mr. McElveen was a sales representative with Palmetto Wholesale Company. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he was a helicopter radio operator. George graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business administration. Survivors include 2 sons, Rick McElveen and his wife, Dana, and Eric McElveen and his wife, Shannon, both of Anderson; a brother J.D. McElveen, Jr. and his wife, Lillie, of Lake City; a sister, Barbara Ann Taylor and her husband, Wayne, of Sumter; also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of George McElveen will be held Friday, August 10, 2012, at 2 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Rigsby officiating. The family will be at the home of Rick and Dana McElveen, 110 North Avenue, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday from 12 noon until 1:30 PM. A private committal ceremony with the family will be held at a later date at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
