George Marshall Merck, 80, husband of Malea Evans Merck, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Anderson, SC on August 1, 1937. Marshall was the son of the late, George and Geneva Roberts Merck.
Marshall began his career with the United States Army Reserves and then the United States Army. He worked at CSX Railroad and retired after 37 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Praise and Worship Center, in Fountain Inn and he was a Christian.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Rodney Merk (Kitty) and Gary Dean Merk.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Malea Evans Merck; son, Gary Charles Merck (Patricia); daughter, Rhonda Merck Thackston (Wendell); grandson, Tyler Thackston; granddaughters, Allison Rhodes and Danyel Fults (Patrick); great-grands, Callie and Cambry Rhodes, Emerson Davis, Ryan and Landon Fults; also survived by his sister, Barbara Merck Gray (George); brother, Derrick Roberts Merck (Karen) and sister-in-law, Juanita Evans Merk; along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from Noon - 1:30pm Monday, June 11, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 pm with Rev. Sherrill Green officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
The family will be at the residence.
