George Edward Sidney, age 85, of Liberty, SC, went home to be with the Lord after a short illness, on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Greer Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Albany, NY, the son of the last Edward and Emma Sidney. He was raised in Schoharie, NY, and graduated from Schoharie Central School in 1954. In 1958 he graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Agriculture Economics. After graduation he served in the Army for two years, and then he became employed by State Bank of Albany, spending most of his employment at the branch in Richfield Springs, NY, where after many years he resigned as an assistant vice president. He was then employed by Springer's Farm Equipment Dealership in Richfield Springs, where he remained until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Richfield Springs.
George enjoyed many years of traveling with the RV and he loved Southern Gospel music. He loved people and had a strong sense of community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elizabeth; a sister, Janet Sidney of Schenectady, NY; brother-in-law, David Bell (Sharon) of Lewisville, TX; and several nieces and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at 11:00 am at The McDougald Pendleton Center with Rev. David Gallamore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Rd., Easley, SC 29642.
