George William Wilson, Sr., age 97, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017, at his residence. Born December 16, 1919, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late John Calvin Wilson and the late Mae Omelia Fagg. George proudly served his country in the United States Navy in WWII from 1939 until 1945. He worked for Duke Power retiring after 36 years of service. He was an avid Atlanta Braves, Clemson Tigers and John Wayne fan. He was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church, Honorary Home Builders Association, VFW, American Legion, Sertoma Club, and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and an IPTAY Member of 50 years. Known as the best father and Papa, he is survived by his three children, Bill Wilson (Lucia), Mary Wilson Steenken, and Steve Jordan Wilson (Michelle); sister, Maggie Jordan; seven grandchildren, Chris Miller (Lori), Matt Miller (Jessica), Ruthie Parnell, Ashley Herbison (Clint), Sydney Steenken, Katherine Wilson, and Karley Wilson; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Evelyn Jordan Wilson; sisters, Maude Wilson, Ludie Rogers, Cora Lee McCown, Sara Phillips, and Laura McCoy; and brothers, Aaron and Woodrow Wilson. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on October 30, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Reverend Josh Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
