Georgell Stokes Patterson, age 81, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House. Born in Anderson on June 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late George L. Stokes and the late Elizabeth Amaker Stokes. For sixty-three years, she was the loving and devoted wife of H. Douglas Patterson of the residence. After graduation from Antreville High School, Mrs. Patterson attended and graduated from Forrest College. She was in marketing, affiliated with several banks in Anderson. She is a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Antreville. In addition to her husband, Douglas, she is survived by two sons, David A. Patterson and his wife, Melanie McGhee, of Maryville, TN, and Bruce A. Patterson and his wife, Selena, of Roque Bluffs, ME; two brothers, Fleetwood Stokes and his wife Yvonne of Denmark, SC, and Richard Stokes and his wife Melanie, of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Betty Grishaw of Richmond, VA, and Jerri Watstein of Indian Wells, CA; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hannah, and Michelle Patterson, and Robby Roller; and one great-grandson, Tyler Henderson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by a brother, Perry Stokes and a sister, Patricia Watts. A graveside service to celebrate and honor the life of Georgell Patterson will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 10 AM at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Antreville, with Rev. Michael L. Hammett officiating. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Patterson may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
