Gladys Marie Rutledge Makison Anderson, SC Gladys Marie Rutledge Makison, age 87, wife of the late Edward F. Makison, Sr., passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Anderson, SC, on January 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Frazier Rutledge and the late Sallie Elizabeth Yates Rutledge. She was a graduate of Anderson Girls High. Mrs. Makison along with her late husband were charter members of The Electric City Shag Club, they were inducted into the South Carolina Shagging Hall of Fame, and she was known as The Queen Mother of The Electric Shag Club. Among her other loves were her cats, gardening, but most of all were her children, grandchildren and her daughters-in-laws, whom she thought of as her daughters. She was an artist and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years with her husband and was member of the Cokesbury Sunday School Class. She was also known as a very giving person. She is survived by her four sons; Edward F. Makison, Jr., (Patsy) of Anderson, SC, Eric Alan Makison (Cathy) of Kennesaw, GA, Jeffrey Scott Makison (Susie) of Anderson, SC and Joel Wesley Makison of Panama City, FL, sister, Dorothy Long of Doraville, GA, seven grandchildren; Danielle Marie Kinney, Joshua Frazier Makison, Amanda Makison Griffin, Erika Elizabeth Gilbert, Jonathan Edward Makison, Melanie Grace Whitbeck and Kevin Michael Makison, eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mary Teasley officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary escort will be members of the Electric City Shag Club. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
