Obituary

Glenda Elaine Benton Manucy, 77, of Anderson, SC, devoted wife to Michael James "Mike" Manucy, Sr., for 56 years, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021, at The Garden House of Anderson surrounded by her loving family. Born March 26, 1943, in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Foster Benton and the late Virginia Smith Benton. Glenda was a wonderful mother who raised four children while being an avid volunteer. She chartered the first middle school PTA in Anderson County. Her children and the Anderson community benefitted greatly from her involvement and leadership in the Girl Scouts, baseball, soccer, wrestling, Pony Club, piano, and community theatre. Glenda made her home a welcoming gathering place for young and old; there was always room for more at the dinner table. She cooked with love and was famous for her pecan pies. Glenda, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, attended the Koinonia Sunday School Class and, as a pre-school teacher, she nurtured numerous children with love and encouragement. Glenda was a patriotic American as witnessed by her 44 years of dedicated service and tenure as a Regent of the Cateechee chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a lifelong member of the Anderson County Women's Club. As the owner of the Whitehall Garden Center, she took pride in sharing her passion for, and knowledge of, God's creations to her beloved customers. Glenda, affectionately known as GG, dedicated herself to others. Family and friends sought out and trusted her counsel in difficult times as she was a great listener and provided loving wisdom. Her sense of humor was uplifting and provided her family and care givers comfort in her last days. In addition to her husband, Mike, she is survived by her sons, Michael Manucy, Jr. (Dreama), and Matthew Manucy (Sara); daughters, Lara Manucy Williams (Gareth), and Jennifer Manucy; nine grandchildren, Sarah Jane and Michael James Manucy; Hannah, Thomas and Megan Williams; Nora, Will, Luke, and Oliver Manucy; brother, David Benton (Sandra); sister, Angelyn Benton Ferrell (Blount); and furry friend, Tiger.
