Obituary

OBITUARY: with photo GOLDA MCGILL COLORADO SPRINGS, CO Golda Sanders McGill, 81, formerly of Anderson, died peacefully at her Colorado Springs home on August 28, 2013. Mrs. McGill is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jerry, a native of Anderson; two daughters, Linda Harward (Robert) and Melissa Brekke (Rob); three grandsons, Justin Harward and Beau and Don Brekke. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Billy McGill of Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Lou Ann Lewis of Orlando and Betty Whitt of Americus, GA., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clovis H. Sanders, former Hartwell Police Chief, and Ada Winn Sanders, both of Anderson; her sister, Frances Chapman ( Mrs. Tom Chapman) of Anderson; two brothers, Emmett C. Sanders of Athens, GA and Clarence Esco Sanders of Americus, GA. Mrs. McGill was born in Danielsville, GA, grew up in Hartwell where she completed high school, and then graduated from Anderson College in 1950. She began her career as a secretary for the law firm, Watkins, Vandiver and Freeman, and later worked for the Social Security Office in Anderson. She was Medical Secretary for the Commanders of the Medical Facilities at Kincheloe AFB, MI, and ENT AFB and Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs. She retired from an outstanding career in Civil Service in 1997, having received numerous awards for her excellent job performance including "Civilian of the Year" award in 1995, the most prestigious award given to civilian. The McGill's began their life together in Anderson, SC. They married December 13, 1958. In 1961 the family was transferred to Kincheloe AFB, MI, where they lived for five years, and then to Colorado Springs, where they lived since 1966. Mrs. McGill was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority in Anderson. She was very active in the Al Kaly Shrine and The Daughters of the Nile. She also had a real passion for bridge, belonging to the ACBL and playing regularly at the Colorado Springs Bridge Club. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada, Colorado Spring, at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
