Brown, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the AnMed Health Medical Center.Born May 20, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Gordon Baillie Brown, Sr., and Josephine Elizabeth Silance Brown. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Richmond ' while there he attained the highest rank in the ROTC. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was a Disabled American Veteran. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion where he served in various capacities including Commanding Officer roles. Mr. Brown was a former Scout Leader as well as a longtime active member of the Power Squadron, having also served in various leadership capacities. A lifelong Episcopalian, Mr. Brown had actively served as altar boy, member of the vestry, lay reader, choir member, chalice bearer, as well as lector. He was currently an active communicant at Grace Episcopal Church in Anderson. Mr. Brown was very passionate about music and had served in numerous choral societies. He was an active Mason having been a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge as well as the York Rite Bodies and the Scottish Rite Bodies. Survivors include his wife, Lynn Smith Brown of the home; his two children: a daughter: Margaret Huxley Brown Stephenson and husband, William Locke Stephenson and their daughter, Kathryn Grace Stephenson, all of Simpsonville, SC; a daughter Elizabeth Silance Brown Cox and husband, Matthew Martin Cox and their daughter, Caroline Pippin Cox, all of Greenville, SC. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church celebrated by The Reverend John B. Hardaway, IV. Burial will follow in the Grace Church Scattering Garden.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 5pm until 7pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, as well as in the Grace Church Parlor immediately following the burial.In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to The Gift of Bread & Water, The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, c/o Grace Episcopal Church, 711 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624, or the Fork Union Military Academy, Office of Development, 4744 James Madison Highway, Fork Union, VA 23055, or to the Greenville Rite Care Center c/o the John I.
