Gordon R. (Dick) Thomas, age 83, husband of Marion Eddy Thomas, passed on July 25, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House. Dick and Marion grew up together in Wallingford, Vermont and were married for 62 years. They moved to Anderson, SC in 1966. Dick retired from Anderson's True Temper facility in 1991, after serving as production control manager since 1965. He also served True Temper at their Vermont and West Virginia plants before coming to Anderson, accumulating over 44 years of service. Dick was a life member of the Hiram Lodge of Free Masons and Post 14 of the American Legion. He served four years in the Navy and the Marines during the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received and his unit was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation with two battle stars. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the finance committee for several years, as well as being on the teaching team for the Wesley Class, for a period of time. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Robert and his wife Barbara of Dillon, SC; a daughter Judi and her husband Dale Kelley of Flower Mound, TX. His grandchildren include Dr. Kevin Thomas and his wife Dr. Sandra Thomas of Kennesaw, GA; Lindsey Thomas, RN of Myrtle Beach, SC; Daniel Thomas of Dillon, SC; Erin Kelley, DVM of McKinney, TX and Brent Kelley of the Irving, TX police department. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 2:30 PM with the Rev. Paul Frey and the Rev. Robert N. Carlisle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Capital Improvement Fund, 1809 North Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd, Anderson, SC 29621. The family will be at the residence, 147 Perpetual Square Drive.
