Grace Metz Lawton, age 96, of Iva, SC, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at NHC Healthcare Anderson.
Born May 18, 1930, in the Gregg Shoals community of Iva, SC, she was a daughter of the late Walter Magnus Metz and Alberta Bowie Metz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Edwin "Ed" Lawton; son, William Thomas Lawton; son-in-law, Clarence Davis; and siblings, Walter Metz, Evans Metz, Woodrow Metz, Bronsil Metz, Jack Metz, Baker Metz, Winston Metz, Winford Metz, Mary Alexander, and Martha Greenway.
Grace was a faithful member of Truth Baptist Church where she cared for the children in the nursery for over 22 years. She loved and cherished her grandchildren and taught them many life skills throughout the years. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and spending time on Lake Secession. She was retired from Jackson Mill.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Davis; daughter-in-law, Carol Lawton; brothers, Russell Metz and Jimmy Metz; grandchildren, Susan D. Moree (Jeff), William Shane Davis (Kim), Jon A. Davis (Heather), and Grace Kelly Shaw (Robert); great grandchildren Michaela Sewell, Davis Sewell, Anna Powers (Tucker), Abby Harper (Daniel), Kierdyn Davis, Grace Davis, Will Davis, Andrew Shaw, Autumn Shaw, and Averi Shaw; and great-great grandchildren, Sloane Sewell and Beau Powers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1:00-1:45 pm at Truth Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Marty Minto officiating. Burial will follow at Iva City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Truth Baptist Church, P.O. Box 317, Starr, SC 29684.
The family will be at the home of her daughter Sandra.
