Grady Lee Carter, age 70, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his residence.
Born in Greenville County, SC on November 5, 1945, he was the son of the late Reverend Thomas Ray Carter and the late Mary Rebecca Tucker Carter. He was a graduate of McDuffie High School and attended Anderson College. Grady was a 28 year veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War, he earned the rank of Sergeant First Class and received three Purple Hearts, and three bronze stars. He served with the 151 Signal Battalion at Donaldson Center for several years. He was a member of the American Legion, the Purple Heart Club, and lifetime member of the VFW. Grady was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Christopher "Chris" Carter and his wife Tanya, and Mark Carter and his wife Ann, all of Anderson, SC; brothers, Jerry, Lonnie, and Leon Carter, all of Williamston, SC; two sisters, Yvonne Beddingfield and Shelby Gilreath, both of Williamston, SC; two grandsons, Christopher Lee Carter and Ryan Carter.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, December 13 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date with Military Honors.
