Grady Harlow, age 91, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at his home at National Health Care of Anderson. Born in Blountville, TN, on October 5, 1924, he was the son of the late Luther Lee Harlow and the late Meada Caroline Harmon Harlow. For fifty-nine years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Minnie Belle Farmer Harlow until her death in 2010.
Mr. Harlow proudly served his country in the US Army during the World War II era. He was an electrician and was employed by Burlington Industries in Bristol, Tennessee for many years. He then worked with Facet Fuel Systems of Bristol, Virginia, until his retirement. Mr. Harlow lived in Bluff City, Tennessee before moving to Anderson, South Carolina in 2004. Grady attended South Pointe Baptist Church in Anderson. His greatest joy was his faith, the love he had for his children and grandchildren, playing bingo on Thursdays at NHC, and socializing with the other residents and staff, who knew him affectionately as "Dr. Harlow."
Mr. Harlow is survived by a son, Carl L. Harlow and his former wife, Carol Harlow, of Florence, AL; a daughter, Sharon H. Hall and her husband, John, of Anderson; three grandchildren, Chad Harlow and his wife, Rachel, Britney Harlow, and Andrew Hall and his wife, Maisie; and a great granddaughter, Anslee Harlow. In addition to his parents and his wife, Minnie, Grady was preceded in death by five brothers, Henry, William "Bill," James "Jim," Thurman, and Binham; and two sisters, Rosa Burnette and Dorothy Harlow.
The family wishes to thank the staff of NHC Anderson, particularly the personnel of Station 3, for the loving care they provided Mr. Harlow during his residency there at NHC.
The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Grady Harlow will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Pastor Dave Neal officiating. Interment will follow at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
