Ernest Grier Brown, age 86,of Parker Bowie Road, Iva, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Born March 12, 1928 in Iva, SC, Grier was the son of the late William David Brown and Varina Campbell Brown. He was a graduate of Iva High School and attended Clemson University. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Corporal. He retired from Jackson Mills with 42 years of service. He was a faithful member of Iva ARP Church where he served as elder and teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class. He was a member of the American Legion, an avid golfer and gardener and enjoyed sharing his produce with many friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jackie Giles Brown; sons, Mickey Brown and his wife Theresa of Greenville, SC and Stan Brown and his wife Susan of Starr, SC; daughter, Karen Gentry and her husband Wayne of Iva, SC; proud papa of his grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Brown, Nathan Gentry, Kaitlyn and Caroline Brown. He is also survived by a sister, Lois Lane of San Carlos, CA.; brother-in-law, Sam Jordan of Hillsborough, NC and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; James L. Brown, William S. Brown, Brice H. Brown and David Brown and sisters. Sara Evans, Mildred Jordan and Jean Latham. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at Iva ARP Church officiated by the Reverend Steve Hardy, Reverend Dr. Boyce Wilson and Reverend Jerry Gray. Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Mr. Brown will be placed in the church at 10:30 am on Thursday. The family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to Iva ARP Church, P.O. Box, 516, Iva SC 29655.
