Obituary

Harold Eugene Boggs Sgt. Major U.S. Army (Ret.) Mr. Boggs was born in Oakway, S.C. June 13, 1932 and entered into rest September 21, 2012 in Melrose, Florida at the age of 80. He was one of five children born to the late Saratus and Nellie Martin Boggs. After high school, Mr. Boggs joined the U.S. Army giving the next 29 years in service to his country. During his enlistment he earned and was awarded numerous commendations and medals for service, including the meritorious service medal, legion of merit medal, the air medal, and the bronze star. Mr. Boggs also had special forces training, becoming a member of the 10th Special Forces Group Airborne Division. He became a master parachutist, serving in the 11th, 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, and finally he became an army recruiter, helping guide young men to a path of service in which he truly believed. After retiring in 1978, Mr. Boggs stayed involved in the military by attending jump school reunions and keeping in touch with his many retired military friends. It is safe to say that Mr. Boggs loved the military and loved his country. Mr. Boggs married Judy Clamp in 1954 and was the father of four children. He is survived by sons, Greg Boggs of Villa Rica, Ga., Mark Boggs and wife Donna of Temple, Ga., Hal Boggs and wife Darcy of Homer, La. and daughter, Kim Boggs of Midland, Texas, a sister, Julia Ann Stitcher and husband Richard of Covington, Ga. and a brother Arlington Boggs and wife Carolyn of Dallas, Ga., and a sister-in-law, Betty Boggs of Fairplay, S.C., four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Saratus and Nellie Martin Boggs and two brothers, Milton Boggs and Ralph Lewis Boggs. Mr. Boggs life will be celebrated on October 20th, 2012 at 11:30 am in a graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. After the service friends and family will gather at Tucker's Restaurant in Anderson, S.C. Flowers will be accepted.
