OBITUARY/ FLAG WITH PHOTOHAROLD DAVENPORTDecember 12, 1929 - June 28, 2008IVA, SCHarold Bennett Davenport, age 78, a resident of 250 Jackson Road, Iva, SC for the past 50 years, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Anderson County on December 12, 1929, Mr. Davenport was the son of the late Furman Bennett and Maude Yeargin Davenport. He was the beloved husband of Gladys Vickery Davenport. He was a 1945 graduate of Boys' High in Anderson, SC and was a United States Army veteran in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Davenport retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company where he was a member of the Pioneers of America. He was a member of the Abbeville County Korean Veterans Association, American Legend Post 44 in Iva, SC, and a life member of the Ruff Masonic Lodge, 240 of Anderson. He was also a member of the Rocky River Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday school class.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Gregory Bennett Davenport and his wife Sherry McNeil Davenport of Abbeville; a daughter, Connie Davenport Sanders of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Stephen Sanders, Kalee Davenport, Alex Bennett Davenport, and Kristin Davenport. His sister, Mary Ruth Davenport Ballard of Greenville, SC also survives.The Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Rocky River Baptist Church with the Reverend Stephen Payne officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. His nephews will serve as active pallbearer and the Men's Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
