March 22, 1947 – February 21, 2024
Harold Victor McKittrick, age 76, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.
On March 22, 1947, Harold was born in Cross Hill, SC, and was the eighth of nine children born to George William McKittrick and Frances Johnson McKittrick. He spent his youth causing mischief with his brothers on the farm.
In 1967, Harold was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was deployed to Kon Tum, Dak To, and Pleiku. Upon his return from Vietnam, Harold continued his service for 21 years with the Army National Guard. Sgt. McKittrick retired from service in 1991.
Harold worked many years in the natural gas and propane industry before moving into sales at White Jones Hardware. Known for his ability to fix almost anything, he continued to repair small engines and gas appliances long into his retirement.
With a kind heart and charisma, Harold never met a stranger. He was always helping those in need. He enjoyed bringing family and friends together with his cooking, and he was best known for his Brunswick stew and cheese pie.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Ouzts McKittrick, as well as his children Kelly Victoria McKittrick (Josh) and Clayton Daniel McKittrick (Lesley). In addition, he is survived by his sister Sylvia Tinsley (Lonnie).
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by brothers James "Jim", George "Bill", Raymond "Kit", Robert "Bobby", and Thomas "Tommy", and sisters Gray Barker and Sara Moon.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 26, 2024, from 12:30-1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Dr. Larry Pearson officiating. The committal service with military honors will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, or Calvary Baptist Temple, 913 Parker Bowie Rd., Iva, SC 29655.
The family will be at the residence.
