He was a son to the late Charles B. Esmacher and Elizabeth Peitl Esmacher. He attended the University of Detroit before World War II and completed his degree in Business Administration and Accounting at George Washington University. He served in the Army Signal Corps, the Military Intelligence division from 1942 until 1946. After his marriage in 1946, he and his wife lived in Arlington, VA for 38 years. Harry began his banking career at Arlington Trust Company in 1946, which became the First American Bank. He retired in 1982 as Executive Vice-President. Harry's community service has included the Cancer Society, Arlington Hospital, Arlington Chamber of Commerce, Northern Virginia Banker's Association and the Kiwanis Club, and the Junior Achievement Organization all in Arlington, VA. Since moving to Anderson, SC, Harry has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He has always enjoyed playing golf, reading, traveling, and being a volunteer at AnMed Health Medical Center.Harry is survived by his wife of 62 years Jeuel B. Esmacher; two granddaughters, Sarah J. Steel of Falls Church, VA and Angela J. Steel of Winchester, VA; one grandson, Joshua E. Walsh of Phoenix, AZ; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian Russell of Westland, MI; five nieces and four nephews.In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by a son Stephen A. Esmacher; daughter, Karen Y. Esmacher; two brothers, Charles and Robert Esmacher, and two sisters, Virginia Schommer and Joanne Esmacher.A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 1, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
