Harry Cleveland Spires, Jr., 92, of Lowndesville, SC passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at his home. Born May 4, 1925 in Lincolnton, GA, he was a son of the late Harry Cleveland Spires, Sr. and the late Ellaree Little Spires. He was also preceded in death by his son, Carroll Leslie Spires; sisters, Catherine S. Nelson and Frances S. Burris; brothers, Ray C. Spires and Hugh J. Spires and son-in-law, Mike Jones. Harry was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass. He loved country and bluegrass music and playing music at the community center. He also was an Atlanta Braves fan. He was known for cutting grass all over Lowndesville, the ball fields, post office and certain individuals. He is survived by his wife, Robbie Parnell Spires; sons, Jimmy Spires of Lowndesville, SC and Troy Spires (Jim Hurt) of Atlanta, GA; handpicked son, Scotty Willoughby of Iva, SC; daughters, Rhonda Newton (Rayford) of Lowndesville, SC, Cindy Jones of Abbeville, SC, Lisa Sammons (Mark) of Abbeville, SC and Lynn Branyon of Lowndesville, SC; sisters, Mildred Maxine Spires Ralph of Anderson, SC and Marjoree Spires Powell of Lownsdesville, SC and sister-in-law, Barbara Spires of Abbeville, SC; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:30-pm - 3:00 pm Friday, February 16, 2018 at Smyrna United Methodist Church Social Hall. The funeral will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:30 pm with Rev. Scotty Willoughby and Rev. Dan Fortney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
