Obituary

Haskel Dorsey Moon, age 97, of 2803 Bellview Road, passed away very peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at his residence. Born on October 20, 1917 in Madison County, Georgia, he was the son of the late John Bill Moon and the late Bessie Ann Scarboro Moon. For fifty-six years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Erline Martin Moon until her death in 1995. Mr. Moon was co-owner with his brother, Lee, of CMS Garage and Body Shop for thirty-five years. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, and a former member of Orrville Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of Hiram Masonic Lodge # 68. Mr. Moon was known as a very honest and hard-working man. He was always concerned about the happiness of others and expressed endless gratitude for all that was done for him. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and his family meant the world to him. Haskel enjoyed outdoor activities including golfing, gardening, camping, fishing and boating. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Todd Moon of the residence; one daughter, Sheila M. Taylor and her husband, Lanny, of Anderson, SC; step-daughter, Michele Todd Mann of Pickens, SC; a brother, Lee W. Moon and his wife, Mickey, of Anderson, SC; a sister, Lucy Pulliam of Royston, GA; two grandchildren, Jay Michael Taylor and Lindsay Rae Taylor and her husband, Andrew Schwartz; three step-grandchildren, Heather Mann Foster, and her husband Corey, Aaron Mann, and his wife Amy, and Josh Mann. Also surviving are seven step great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Erline, Mr. Moon was preceded in death by two brothers, Wiley and Dupree Moon; and three sisters, Annie Mae Scarboro, Ruby Vaughn, and Lila Hendrix. The family wishes to express gratitude to Lacrease Geer, Kontavia Hill, Teresa Geer, and Julie Rae Brown for the loving care they provided Mr. Moon prior to his death. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Haskel D. Moon will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Ray Martin, Mr. Moon's brother-in-law, officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, October 11, 2015, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions in memory of Mr. Moon be made to Concord Baptist Church, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC 29621; or to Gentiva Hospice, 15 Brendan Way, Suite 100, Greenville, SC 29615.
