CARNES October 21, 1921 - August 29, 2008IVA, SCMrs. Helen Rebecca Thompson Carnes, age 86, formerly of Brown Road, Starr, wife of the late J. C. Carnes, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Willow Creek Living Center in Iva.Born in Greenwood, SC on October 21, 1921, Mrs. Carnes was a daughter of the late Irvin Thompson and Dolly Clinkscales Thompson. She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, camping and was a NASCAR racing fan. She was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church. Survivors include her sons, Alton Carnes and his wife, Patsy Carnes of Iva, Gene Carnes and his wife, Pat Carnes; Thomas Carnes and his wife, Lib Carnes and James 'Dinky' Carnes and his wife, Rossie Carnes, all of Starr; daughters, Martha Owens and her husband, Gaine Owens of Iva, Nellie Sue Compton of Anderson and Sandra Woody and her husband, Wayne Woody of Starr; brother, Tommy Thompson and his wife, Lorraine Thompson of Starr; sister, Grace Evans of Toccoa, GA; eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers; one sister; three grandsons and one granddaughter. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 3:00 pm at Poplar Spring Baptist Church officiated by the Reverends Bruce Evans and Jerry Gray. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mrs. Carnes will be placed in the church at 2:30 pm on Sunday. The family will be at their respective homes.Flowers are optional.
