Helen Amanda Harbin Barbare Madden, age 94, of Anderson, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Rainey Hospice House with her loving family by her side. Born in Anderson on July 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Waymon Witherspoon Harbin and the late Martha Eugenia Shirley Harbin. Helen was a graduate of Anderson Girls' High School. She was a switchboard operator for Southern Bell, and subsequently worked for many years in the men's department at Gallant-Belk's in Anderson. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Don Barbare (Gail) of Townville, and Mike Barbare of Iva; four daughters, Dianne Vickery of Greenville, Gail Wells (Jerry) of Anderson, Patricia Ragsdale (Gary) of West Union, and Cathy McIntyre (Benny) of Anderson; and a brother, Harry Harbin of Gastonia, NC. Mrs. Madden is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and four step-children. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ellis E. Madden; three brothers, Robert, Charlie and Bill Harbin; three sisters, Margaret Stewart, Edna Johnson, and Dot Spearman; and two sons-in-law, Ray Vickery and Bobby Shirley. The family will be at the home, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 14, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a service of celebration of Helen's life in the Chapel to be conducted by Reverend Dr. Jimmy Boggs. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Reverend Philip S. Gillespie officiating.
