PENDLETON, SC'Mrs. Helen Elizabeth McGaha Whitfield, age 86, widow of John Madison Whitfield of 402 South Elm Street, Pendleton, SC died on Friday, October 14, 2005 at Hart Care Center in Hartwell, GA.Born on March 6, 1919 in Sandy Springs, SC, Mrs. Whitfield was a daughter of the late William McGaha and the late Hattie Martin McGaha. She retired from Regal Textiles in LaFrance, SC with 51 years service. Mrs. Whitfield was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and attended Covenant of Faith, Pendleton, SC where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School ClassMrs. Whitfield is survived by two sons, Jerry Whitfield and Steve Whitfield both of Anderson, SC; a daughter, Margaret Porter of Anderson, SC; a brother, Doyle McGaha of Anderson, SC; three sisters, Willie Mae Maney of Sandy Springs, SC, Annie B. Pace of Summerville, SC, and Nellie Gray of Lavonia GA; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Whitfield was a mother to us all.In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Whitfield was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas McGaha and three sisters, Louise McGaha, Lavinia McClain, and Ruth McClain.The family is at the home of a son, Jerry Whitfield, 428 Gibson Road, Anderson, SC.
