Henry Eugene Pierce, age 78, passed away on January 22, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born on April 17, 1935 in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Henry Atlas Pierce and the late Thelma Boykin Pierce. For 60 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Linda Shirley Pierce. Mr. Pierce proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS LST 32. In 1990, he and Linda organized the LST Reunion, which has been held every year since that time. Mr. Pierce retired from Greenville Technical College, where he taught Machine Tool Technology and was instrumental in developing the Computer Numerical Control Program. He also taught other instructors from all parts of the state. He was a faithful member of Neals Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served in many capacities of leadership in the church including Deacon, Teacher, as well as serving on many committees. One of the greatest joys of his life was music. He was a member of the choir as long as his health permitted. He is now singing in God's heavenly choir. In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by a sister, Anita Pierce Porter; brothers, Joe Pierce, David Pierce (Patsy) and Roger Pierce (Linda) all of Anderson, SC. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Shirley Brooks (Tommy) of Belton, SC and Annette Shirley of Anderson, SC; and two brothers-in-law, Donnie Shirley (Janice) of Anderson, SC and Jerry Shirley (Faye) of Piedmont, SC. Although he had no children of his own, Mr. Pierce was a loving uncle and "Papa" to many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Hazel Kelly, Betty Carver and Linda Cash, as well as his mother-in-law, Leila Kelly Shirley. The visitation will be from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Saturday, January 25th at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, January 26 at Neals Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Pierce will be placed in the church at 2:00PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Neals Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
