Herman Odell Martin, M SGT, U.S. Marines, retired July 10, 1925 - November 26, 2012 BELTON, SC Herman Odell Martin went to glory on November 26, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Lynette Martin Pannell, of Anderson, three grandsons Joshua Pannell, and wife Carrie, Charles Pannell and wife Bethany, and Andrew Pannell, all of Anderson. In addition, he was Papa to three great-grandchildren, Mary DuPre Pannell, MaKynna Pannell, and William Pannell. Mr. Martin was reunited with his wife of 64 years, Connie Margaret Martin, one daughter, Cheryl Jean Martin, his father, James Floyd Martin, and his mother, Sally Cordell Martin. He was also predeceased by one sister, Azalea Martin Bond and three brothers, Cecil Martin, Harold Martin, and Joel Martin. Mr. Martin served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty years active duty, and ten years of reserve duty, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Anderson and received the Four Chaplain's Award from the organization. Mr. Martin was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, the John McLees Sunday School Class, and the Prospectors Senior Group. He was formerly an active member of the Gideon's International working with the prison ministry. He and his wife worked together in their business, Martin Microwave, for many years. Services will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 3:30 p.m., in the Chapel at McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, prior to the service. Mr. Martin will be buried with full Military Honors at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon's International or Wounded Warriors in Action, 6516 Dolphin Cove Dr., Apollo Beach, FL, 33572.
