Hershel Wayne Owens, age 86, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born February 12, 1938, in Elberton, GA, he was the son of the late George Thomas Owens and Lena Mae Atkins Prince. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, James Earl Prince.

Hershel worked in the textile industry and was employed with Haynesworth for over forty years and with Wamsutta Mills for five years before retiring. He loved tinkering with motors, working on cars, as well as riding and working on motorcycles. He enjoyed watching wrestling and other shows on TV. His most favorite pastime was sitting on his porch where he gathered often with the family he loved.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn Owens of Anderson; sons, Anthony W. Owens and Roger Dale Owens (Tracy); a daughter, Peggy O. Williamson (Derrill); five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 12:00-1:15 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Larry Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
