HOWARD SIMPSON Howard Simpson, age 85, of 1709 Antreville Hwy., passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 28, 2014, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Starr, SC, on July 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Marshall Simpson and the late Willie Loftis Simpson Smith. For 68 wonderful years, he was the husband of his beloved wife, Doris Purdy Simpson of the residence. Mr. Simpson was employed as a weaver at Southside Abney Mill. He also worked with several farms including Gray Farm, Jordan Farms, and McCaw Farms. In his spare time Howard loved hunting and fishing, NASCAR racing and the Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Doris, Mr. Simpson is survived by a son, Michael Simpson of the residence; 2 daughters, Patsy Jones and husband, T.J., of Starr, and Judy Kwast and her husband, Bob, of Grand Rapids, MI. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Jeff Jones (Donna), Annette Brooks (Chris), Jeremiah Kwast (Cheri'), and Melody Kimberly (Jeff); 9 great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Emily, Haleigh, Samantha, Abigail, Owen, Lewis, Cayleigh, and Micah. Mr. Simpson was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his step-father, Cecil Smith; brothers, Ralph and Claude Simpson; and a granddaughter, Amanda Kwast. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Howard Simpson will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Antreville, with Rev. Tommy Alewine and Rev. George Brassard officiating. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Simpson may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5481 Highway 28 N, Abbeville, SC 29620.
