Irene Wiles Dickerson, age 91, of Starr, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Abbeville Area Medical Center. Born September 12, 1931, in Ware Shoals, SC, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Wiles and Minnie Elgin Wiles. She was married for 65 years to Thomas Clyde Dickerson, Sr. until his death in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Horace, Clyde, and Jerry Wiles; sisters, Lula Mae Moon, Phyllis Wells, and Mary Faye Wiles; and grandson, Josh McCurry. Irene was a talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She loved her family and was the family historian. She was a member of Carswell Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Rita Stone (Dave), Susan Bowen (Milton), T.C. Dickerson (Darlene), and Jo Ann Stone (Donnie); siblings, Hoyt Wiles, Robert Wiles, Alice Burdette, Sara Mauldin, and Linda Copeland; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 12, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Carswell Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Wiles, Rev. Tony Smith, and Rev. Bud Rager officiating. Burial will follow at Iva City Cemetery. Flowers are optional or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
