Iris Sexton Davis, 89, of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at The Maples of Honea Path. Born, June 15, 1933, in Starr, SC, she was a daughter of the late Cullen Shaylor Sexton and the late Lila Brown Sexton. She was married to Joseph Eugene "Gene" Davis until his death on January 26, 2002. Iris was a social worker for Anderson Oconee Head Start and Anderson County School Districts 3 and 5. She loved helping others and leaves a legacy with Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson Interfaith Ministries, Meals on Wheels, Senior Solutions, S.A.G.E.S., and Widow and Widowers Club. She was a member of Marshall Memorial UMC Church and the Owens Corning Fiberglass Camping Club. She helped and gave to others, unconditionally. Iris was patient, loving, kind and understanding; her passion was serving others. She loved her family and was always there for each one, regardless of the need. She had the uncanny ability to make each family member feel uniquely special. There is no doubt she will be missed by her large family and the many people she has helped through the years. Iris leaves behind a son, Gerald Eugene Davis; daughters, Rita Mitchell, Janet Stanley (Robert) and Joyce Aiken (Mike); sisters, Dorothy Sanders (Doug), and Sandra Foster; grandchildren, Chris Mitchell, Mark Mitchell (Christine), Greg Mitchell (Melissa), Scott Davis (Jen), Jeffrey Aiken (Sofia), Ryan Stanley (Laney), Jennifer Anders (Mark), Stephanie Neale (Justin), and Daisy Mitchell; sister-in-law, Marguerite Clark; special friend, Lucia Atkins; 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by brother, Cullen Shaylor "Buddy" Sexton, Jr.; sister, Barbara Burgess; and son-in-law, Rev. Terry Mitchell. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. Jim Patterson officiating. A burial will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, www.hospiceoftheupstate.com.
