Rufus Jackson Lingefelt, age 90, of Pendleton, SC, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House. Born October 12, 1932, in Central, SC, he was a son of the late G.A. "Jack" Lingefelt and Mary Jane Timms Lingefelt. He was preceded in death by his sons, Jack Lingefelt, Jr. and Andy Lingefelt; and siblings, Vernon Lingefelt, Bobbie Nell Barker, Babe Lingefelt, Boyd Lingefelt, and Pete Lingefelt. Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict. He was a highly decorated member of the 25th Infantry Division and received among others the Purple Heart and Korean Service Medal with 6 Bronze Stars. Though his service in the military was for a short period of time, the memories lasted a lifetime. He was a former business owner as well as a field superintendent with Daniel Construction. Jack was a diehard Republican who enjoyed gardening and NASCAR. He was a Mason and Shriner and was a member of the American Legion in Pendleton and Refuge Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Jameson of Pendleton, SC; brother, Billy Lingefelt (Ethel) of Fair Play, SC; grandchildren, Tyler Stuart (Liz), Trent Stuart (Ashley), Tully Lingefelt (Molly), Cody Lingefelt (Amber), Jackson Lingefelt, III, Kelsea Mason, Cole Lingefelt (Michelle), Ben Lingefelt, and Susanna Tollison (Evan); and great grandchildren, Jack, Graham, and Hank, Finn, Banks, and Waylon, Colten and Kaylee, Eli and Knox, Landon, Junior, and Axel, Atticus and Astyn, Chandler and John Andrew. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Refuge Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Duncan and Rev. Mike Dobson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted. The family will be at the home of his daughter Gail.
