MARTINJUNE 22, 1939 - May 26, 2011ANDERSON, SC ' Jackson 'Jack' Durham Martin, age 71, of 2604 Edgewood Avenue, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011.Born June 22, 1939, in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Carol C.J. Martin and Bonnie Durham Martin. He was a graduate of Palmetto High School and attended Clemson University. Following a seventeen year career with Harper Brothers, Inc., he founded Martin Office Supply & Furniture Company and served as the owner and President. The successes of his career allowed him to be recognized on all levels for awards achieved as well as being instrumental in designing countless libraries all over South Carolina. For over thirty years he was passionate about the mission of Boy Scouts, particularly Boy Scout Troup No. 84; within his Scout involvement, he served in district positions, served as Assistant Scoutmaster, served within the Blue Ridge Council, as well as tireless efforts toward Camp Old Indian. Mr. Martin was most passionate about his longtime faithful membership in the Anderson Sertoma Club; within Sertoma, he was recognized as a Gold Coat President, a founding member of the Foothills Sertoma Club, a District Governor, and was a recipient of the distinguished honor as 'Sertoman of the Year'. His tireless Sertoma fundraising efforts were never unnoticed whether it be efforts in Christmas Tree sales, activities at Camp Sertoma, or any other activity at hand. In earlier years, Mr. Martin had a love for the outdoors and farming -- many may remember his longtime involvement in the FFA Club. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he was an active member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class.Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Linda Seawright Martin; a son, Chesley D. Martin and wife, Carla M. Martin, of Greenville, SC; a daughter, Laura Martin Wilson and husband, Michael E. Wilson, of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Jackson Kenneth Martin of Greenville, SC; and three brothers: C. David Martin, George W. Martin, and Paul E. Martin, all of Williamston, SC.A family committal service will be held at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery, Midway Road. A Memorial Service will follow at 3pm on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Central Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. David J. Bailey and Dr. John D. LeHeup. Members of the Anderson Sertoma Club as well as Koinonia Sunday School Class are invited to sit together at the Memorial Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the Memorial Service.
