Jacqueline "Kitty" Merk Anderson, SC Jacqueline "Kitty" Higginbotham Merk, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in LaFrance, SC, on May 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late J.D. Higginbotham and the late Clara Smith Higginbotham. She was a 1951 graduate of Girl's High. She spent her professional career at Owens Corning Fiberglas as the plant engineer secretary. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Jan Merk White, of Spartanburg, SC and Gina Merk Gainey and her husband Al, of Anderson, SC; a sister, Carolyn Strickland, of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren, Scott White, of Summerville, SC, Jason White, of Inman, SC, Heather Gainey Crowe and her husband Adam, of Anderson, SC, and Rebecca Gainey Marchbanks and her husband Jamie, of Columbia, SC; and five great-grandchildren, Garrett, Susannah, Brendan, Jameson and Lawton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Merk; and a brother, Gerald Higginbotham. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Mark Dickson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary Escorts will be the staff and residents of The Legacy of Anderson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at 101 Shadow Creek Lane, Building 5A, Apt 234, Anderson, SC 29621.
