James "Jim" Blanton Anderson, SC James "Jim" Eugene Blanton, 75, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at NHC of Anderson. Born on September 8, 1939, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Wofford T. Blanton and the late Gladys F. Blanton. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High and earned degrees from North Greenville Junior College, Gardner Webb University and Southeastern Seminary. Jim was the pastor of Parkwood Baptist Church, a counselor for Anderson Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission, a tennis pro at Cardinal Racquet Club and he retired as a counselor with South Carolina Mental Health. After retirement Jim was a courtesy van driver for Ralph Hayes Toyota. He is survived by his wife Martha Price Blanton; three children, Debbie (Stan) Cochran, Jamie (Terry) Gaines, and Scott Blanton, all of Anderson; four grandchildren, Gray Cochran, Chase Cochran, Christina Blanton, all of Anderson, SC and Zach Gaines of Myrtle Beach, SC; two great-grandchildren, Jai Blanton and Eli Burke, both of Anderson; and siblings, Annette (Ray) Quinn, of Isle of Palms, SC and Olin (Georgia) Blanton, of Greenville, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Cale Cochran. The family would like to extend a special message of thanks to the staff of NHC of Anderson for the care and compassion shown throughout the past four years. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Reverend Jones Brewer, Reverend Tom Turner, and Reverend Dr. Tony Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC 29625, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
