JAMES E. COLEY
James Eugene Coley, age 68, of Anderson, went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 24, 2015, upon his death at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born on September 30, 1946, in Pinson Fork, KY, he was the son of the late Joseph Eugene Coley and the late Silvia Pauline Simpkins. For almost 49 years he was the loving and devoted husband of Jackie Briscoe Coley of the residence.
After his graduation from Laurens High School, Mr. Coley attended United Electronics Institute in Charleston, SC. He proudly served his country from 1967 through 1971 in the US Army stationed in Berlin, Germany, where he was attached to the USMLM unit. James was an electrician with BASF until his retirement after thirty years employment. He is a former Assistant Pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Anderson, and is a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Mr. Coley is remembered for his passion for sharing the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ with others, and has touched many lives through his ministry.
In addition to his wife, Jackie, Mr. Coley is survived by a son, Jonathan Coley and his wife, Marie, of Anderson; a daughter, Suzanne Glattli and her husband, Paul, of Travelers Rest; a brother, Brian Coley and his wife, Wanda, of Defuniak Springs, FL; two sisters, Loraine Boone and her husband, Gordon, of Seneca and Twila Coley and her husband, Gerald, of Temple, TX; two wonderful grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Julia Coley and Ian Glattli; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a son, James Coley, Jr.
The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of James Coley will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Evan Hill officiating. Entombment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
