James Parker Gilbert, 90, husband of 64 years to Mrs. Alice Ann Gilbert, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec 8, 2016 under hospice care at Brookdale Greenville. He was born and raised in Monongah, WV. He was the president of his junior and senior classes at Monongah High School. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a tank crewman and played clarinet in the Army band. He was a graduate of West Virginia University and worked for 37 years for American Electric Power as a Mechanical Engineer in New Haven, WV, Canton, OH and Columbus, OH. After retiring, he and Alice moved to Anderson, SC. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Parker and Metta Gilbert, and his sister Betty. He is survived by his wife, Alice, son Bob and wife, Diane, son Bill and wife Debbie, son Tom and wife, Susan; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, December 19, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at McDougald Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, also at the funeral home, with Reverend Bill Parnell officiating. Burial will be at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
