JAMES FREDERICK GUNNELLS May 31, 1933 - September 4, 2007ANDERSON, SCMr. James Frederick Gunnells, MSGT USAF Ret., age 74, husband of Ruth Damon Gunnells of 1825 Busby Road, Anderson, SC, died Tuesday, September 04, 2007 at the AnMed Heath Medical Center in Anderson.Born in Franklin County, GA on May 31, 1933, Mr. Gunnells was the son of the late Leland H. Gunnells, Sr., and Nelle Wallace Gunnells. He served 20 years in the United States Air Force; 11 years as a flight engineer including 18 months in the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, Guam tracking typhoons. His last duty station was the 89th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 89th Military Airlift Wing, Andrews AFB, Maryland. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for service to the Presidential and Special Missions Aircraft of the 89th. He also spent 20 years as a heating and air conditioning technician and supervisor for Sears, Roebuck & Company. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, serving as past chairman of the trustees. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruth Damon Gunnells of the home; daughter, Susan E. Gunnells of Anderson, SC; son, David W. Gunnells and daughter-in-law, Dina of Holly Springs, NC; four grandchildren, Kayleigh Norris, Courtney, Sean and Meagan Gunnells of Holly Springs, NC; brother, Leland Gunnells and sister-in-law, Doris of Franklin County, GA. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Wayne Pearce officiating. Interment will follow at Bold Spring United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carnesville, GA at 3:00 pm with Military Honors.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the residence.
