James L. Hertig, 89, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019.
Born December 5, 1929 in Algona, IA, he was a son of the late Edwin Charles Hertig and Louise Sebek Hertig. He was married to the late Marie Mertes Hertig.
James was a graduate of the University of Iowa and was a veteran of the United States Army earning the rank of captain and served during the Korean War. Following active duty, he served in the Army Reserves. He was an industrial engineer and efficiency expert for BASF and retired after 25 years of service. He was past chairman of the Anderson County Planning Board and an avid traveler. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club and Sertoma Club and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Clemson where he was a faithful usher.
He is survived by his children, Susan Hertig Bacon, Sarah Hertig Brickley, Christopher James Hertig and Mary Ellen Hertig Minniear; grandchildren, J. Scott Minniear, Jr., Marie Provence, Samantha Minniear, Heather Brickley, Jacob Hertig and Jonathan Hertig; and brother in law George Wallace Adamson.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jane Louise Hertig Adamson.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, December 13, 2019 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Clemson, SC, with Father Dan McLellan officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service. A family committal service will be held at 3:00pm at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
Flowers will be accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 112, Clemson, SC 29633 and Meals on Wheels, PO Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622.
