IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James M.
Kelly
November 7, 1932 – December 3, 2024
James Major Kelly, 92, of Anderson SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Born in Possum Kingdom, on November 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Baylis and Clara Belle Kelly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Kelly, his two sons, Donnie and Terry Kelly, and 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Paulette Meredith, his grandchildren, Sonja Kelly, Kim Lollis (Deron), Scott Kelly, Cindy Meredith (Paul), David Meredith, and Michelle Conwell (Chris), his great grandchildren, Brian Keith, Kimbrall, Breanna, Tyler, Tristan, Austin, Kaleb, and Ansleigh and one great-great grandchild, Gabriella.
One of 13 children who were all musically inclined without a single lesson, James spent his entire life singing for the Lord, traveling for many years as the lead singer, and bass guitar player for The Kelly Singers.
He loved his family and never let this go without saying. He taught all that were close to him what good morals and good character were, to never let anger get the better of you, and if you're able, go to church and do work for the Lord. Prior to his health declining he was a long-time member of Homeland Park Church of God and then later Williamston Church of God. He played the bass guitar in the band until he could no longer attend.
He was lovingly known as "The Pillow Man" at the Anderson Jockey Lot. For many years he made and sold pillows. He loved the Jockey Lot and you could always find him there every Saturday, making his rounds, and of course eating his peanuts.
James began his decline in 2022, but lived life to the fullest up until that time. Even during his final days, you could still hear him singing the gospel as he did for many years before and you never left the room without him telling you he loved you.
Services will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 am with Reverend Mark Daniel and Reverend Jerry Nation officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am until 10:45 am.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made in his name to Caris Hospice.
