James Samuel Lick, age 84, of Anderson, SC since 1982, cherished husband of Barbara Jean Lick since February 14, 1962, passed away peacefully Friday, February 11, 2022, at Brookdale of Anderson.
Born September 11, 1937, in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late Artz Samuel Lick and Grace Mae Heisey Lick.
James was known for his kindliness, attention to his family, diligence, faith, and humor. He worked summer jobs, and at Penn State worked in the cafeteria and a local bakery, to afford college to earn a Chemical Engineering degree. He participated in ROTC and track and field there as well. He worked first for an oil drilling company in Houston, TX, where he met his wife to be at a dance there. Later they moved to Williamsburg, VA, for a job at a BASF, where he worked until retirement. He had helped design and startup a sister plant in Anderson, and 30 years later worked there until he retired after the Williamsburg plant closed.
He enjoyed Citizens Band radio and was a president of a REACT club dedicated to assisting motorists. He was an early adopter of home computing, using the first generation PCs like the Vic20 to learn computer programming. He also enjoyed boating, fishing with his family, woodworking, and singing while playing the keyboard.
As a member of St. John's United Methodist Church since 1984, James found opportunities to volunteer, such as keeping up his church's website. He also helped with cub scouts.
James was the dearly loved father to Michael Lick (wife Wendy) of Kingsport, TN, Sharon Kilpatrick (husband Gary) of Jamestown, NC, Kenneth Lick of Anderson, SC, and Brenda Lick of Anderson, SC; and he was blessed by six grandchildren, Valerie Lick, Brittany Lancaster, Nathan Lick, Melanie Lick, Amanda Lick, and Ryan Lick. Also surviving is brother, Thomas A. Lick (wife Gloria) of Florida; and sister, Katherine L. Plizga (husband Joseph) of Idaho.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Hughes.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Rebecca Rowell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
