James E. Maxwell, age 79, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at his home. Born in Franklin County, GA, on September 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Tom Edd Maxwell and the late Beulah Mae Lowe Maxwell. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and in the Georgia National Guard. He retired from BASF after 28 years of service. James was a member of Hiram Lodge #68, Homeland Park Baptist Church and Lake View Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Paula Foley Maxwell; his children, Reverend Dr. Thomas Cole Maxwell and his wife JoBeth, Dennis Edward Maxwell, Kenneth Eric Maxwell, and Melissa Lea Maxwell Blackwell and her husband David; a brother, Joe B. Maxwell; two sisters, Barbara Sosby, and Margaret Norryce; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Burden. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with his son, Reverend Dr. Thomas Maxwell and Reverend James Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by Upstate Veteran's Honor Guard.
