McCONNELL October 23, 1922 - January 25, 2013 James William McConnell, age 90, of 13 Harris Street, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Friday, January 25, 2013. Born in Pelzer, SC, Mr. McConnell was the son of the late George McConnell and the late Idell Stacks McConnell. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Bessie Estelle Southerland McConnell until her death in 1988. Mr. McConnell proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army. He was a member of Orville United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee. He recently became a member of Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church when these two congregations merged. For over 40 years, he was employed by Orr Mills where he was Superintendent in the Lyons Division. Survivors include a son, J. Randall McConnell and his wife, Dot, of Duncan, SC; 3 sisters, Virginia Carithers and her husband, James, of Starr; Ann Whitten and Fay Harris, both of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Tammy Patterson, JoAnn George, Robin Norris, and Wayne, Jeff, and J.P. McConnell. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents and his wife, Stella, Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by a son, William Gerald McConnell; 2 brothers, Billy Joe McConnell and Charles Curtis McConnell; 2 sisters, Margie Richie and Harriett Nicholson. The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of James McConnell will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013, at 1 PM, at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Charlie Brookshire officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, January 27, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
